From that fortuitous day in May 2014 when we snared a coveted spot in the 2015 Division A Harmony Classic Competition, to when we sang our hearts out in the Grand Garden Arena in Vegas, it’s been a pretty epic 507-day adventure and we at Bathurst Panorama Chorus couldn’t be happier or more grateful for it. It was a fantastic experience performing our HC package – with an “Aussie Bohemian” twist. Few words can capture the feeling of standing on the International stage, seeing the Australian flags, hearing the combined cheers, “Oi-Oi-Oi’s”, cooees and kookaburra calls. It truly is an honour and we are very proud to be the 2016 Division A 5th Place International medallists.

Our Vegas experience wasn’t “just” confined to those amazing 15 minutes on stage: we had a fabulous week leading up to The Big Day. In addition to rehearsals, we attended an awesome performance by Aussie exports Human Nature (now there’s some sustained physical and vocal energy!); we were spurred on by our two international coaches, Lynne Smith and Judy Pozsgay, and further inspired by a performance from Frenzy (!), who would later go on to be International Silver Medallists and Most Entertaining Quartet. We enjoyed a combined dinner with our fellow Region 34 chorus representatives, Endeavour Harmony, and explored the crazy neon wonderland that is Las Vegas.

Another highlight was the pre-competition Aussie “Rah-rah”. Not only did we get to enjoy a fantastic performance from our champs, Hi-Jinx Quartet, but to combine and sing together as one big Australian contingent, cheered on by the Region 34 fans, was a wonderful experience and we thank the RMT for arranging this event. BPC extend huge congratulations to Hi-Jinx on their improvement in score and being among the 25 best quartets in the world – what an achievement! - and to Endeavour Harmony on their 10th place International medal. Your finals package was funny, poignant and had us all bawling and cheering with pride!

In fact, we’re feeling rather proud to be a part of what has been an historic year for Region 34, with several “Aussie Firsts”: EHC being the first chorus to make the Top 10, us being the first chorus to compete in Harmony Classic for a second time, Melbourne Chorus who’re heading to Vegas #2 as our first Wildcard chorus and current regional champions, A Cappella West, who’ll make their International debut. Our heartfelt thankyou’s go to: all you Aussie Sweet Adelines for your encouragement and support, both in Vegas and online (we felt the lurve); Glenda Lloyd for her arrangement of Absolutely Everybody; our Murrumbidgee Magic OOTERS, Jill, Judy and Julie; our entourage of BPC supporters (bless your cotton socks!); our board members, music and costume teams; our coaches Lea B, Judy and Lynne; and finally, our brilliant MD, Tracey Cam, without whom we’d never have achieved what we did. We wish everyone a safe and happy festive season and here’s to more “epic adventures” in 2016.
