This little quip best describes how we at Bathurst Panorama Chorus are still feeling, three weeks after this year’s convention in Sydney, celebrating Region 34’s 25th anniversary. Like most choruses, we approached the 2014 chorus competition with a variety of goals; the presiding ones being to improve our scores from last year and deliver the most heart-felt and genuine performance we possibly could (and if we happened to win our division – that would’ve been an added bonus!).
The overall standard of both the chorus and quartet competitions was so impressive. BPC was extremely proud of our two quartets who represented us so well in the quartet competition; Andiamo who came in 6th place and Magic To Do, who made their debut in their current line-up. As a credit to our entire region, both competitions were tough! So, although we came off stage feeling generally pleased with our performance on that Saturday afternoon, we remained philosophical about what results might ensue.
Needless to say, we were shocked and delighted to not only be named the 2014 Small Chorus Champions, but to have won the overall silver medal as well. We were stoked by our 18-point improvement on our previous score, making us one of nine choruses who took their performances “to another level” this year.
Of course, you can imagine the elation when, the next morning, we found out that our 598 points ranked us in first place out of all competing small choruses in the world (!!!) and 55th overall!
So we’ve since accepted an official invitation to compete in the Harmony Classic competition at the International Convention in Las Vegas in 2015. We are so fortunate to have this opportunity and are honoured to be representing Australia once again.
And now begins the whirlwind of future coaching sessions, devising our “comp package”, honing our performance and vocal skills, ....raising funds.... singing in the Bathurst and Orange Eisteddfods....did we say fundraising?? J
It’s going to be an exciting and challenging 68 week journey to Nevada!
Meanwhile, we could not have achieved what we did in Sydney without the talent, dedication and vision of our Musical Director, Tracey Cam. Her drive and energy not only made us challenge ourselves but inspired us to go into new musical territory. We also want to thank Lea Baker for her coaching brilliance. We at Bathurst Panorama Chorus wish to extend our congratulations to our 2014 Region 34 champions, Endeavour Harmony Chorus and Hi-Jinx - both of whom achieved record-breaking scores. We congratulate Broadband quartet for qualifying as a Wildcard competitor for Baltimore, and the Melbourne Chorus who are our Midsize Chorus Champions. Our thanks go to the Regional Management Team and Convention organising committee for staging a suitably-fantastic annual convention, celebrate our region’s 25th birthday.
